Yummy, and beautiful color. I have prepared this drink many times now. Very enjoyable, everyone who tastes it enjoys it. I could not find superfine sugar so used regular sugar and turned out fine. Also used pink grapefruit juice for best color.-10 Mar 2003
Wondeful drink! It's the best drink I've made for myself at home, ever. I didn't use any sugar as I didn't have the superfine sugar and didn't think it needed it anyway!-23 Oct 2004
This was very good - actually drinking it now. I used fresh squeezed grapefruits and regular sugar. I added a splash of maraschino cherry juice and one cherry. It was beautiful with the grapefruit pulp and the cherry. Very tasty.-25 May 2008
Malibu Bay Breeze
This Malibu Bay Breeze is a delicious tropical cocktail made with rum and fruit juices.
I love making delicious and easy cocktail recipes at home. And it is SO easy to make this Malibu Bay Breeze recipe!
You just need a few ingredients and you are good to go.
What is the difference between a Bay Breeze and a Sea Breeze?
While they sound similar and commonly mistaken for one another, a bay breeze and sea breeze are two different drinks.
While a Bay Breeze has pineapple juice added to cranberry juice and vodka, a Sea Breeze swaps the pineapple juice out for grapefruit juice. Both are absolutely delicious!
The Bay Breeze feels like a tropical “twist” on the Sea Breeze.
How to make a layered drink
See those beautiful layers? With the Bay Breeze, you can make a layered drink look with the different fruit juices! Making a layered drink is easy: all you have to know is a few tricks. It’s not as simple as just pouring one juice on top of the other. Here’s how to make a layered drink:
- Put the less dense layer in the glass first. Usually the alcohol will be less dense than the juice. For this drink, we mixed the vodka with the pineapple juice first.
- Tip the glass and slowly pour in the denser layer so that it settles under the first layer.Watch this video to see how! We poured in the cranberry juice second, so that the pineapple-vodka mixture floats on top.
Here is a specific visual guide to making the Cape Codder drink. Most bartenders simply pour a shot over ice in a highball glass, top with cranberry, shake and drop a wedge of lime in the glass.
This is a more specific cocktail recipe. If you make it a few times you will get a feel for the pour and can adjust to your personal taste.
Make sure you have everything to make the cocktail first, including fresh ice. Fill a highball glass with ice.
Pour 2 ounces of vodka over the ice.
Then add 4-5 ounces of cranberry juice cocktail.
Then a half ounce of fresh lime juice. If you prefer to squeeze it straight into the drink, a wedge about 1/4 of a small lime will make roughly this much juice.
Then just drop the spent wedge into the cocktail if you like.
Shake or stir to mix and garnish with a lime circle or wedge.
How to make a Sea Breeze Cocktail:
It’s an easy drink to make. And it’s nothing fancy. Fill an 8-ounce glass halfway with ice cubes. Add 4-ounces of grapefruit juice, 2-ounces of cranberry juice and 1 1/2-ounces of vodka. Give it a stir, garnish with a lime, and serve.
Alternately, you can use a cocktail shaker- place the ice and other ingredients in the shaker. Shake, then strain into a glass and serve.
Chef Sal Basile’s pizza oven
A counter-top pizza oven can take your homemade pizzas to another level. (Photo: Breville)
Sal Basile has been making pizza since he was a child in New York City, partnering in his first Fort Myers restaurant at the age of 18. Over the last four decades he has opened numerous successful Italian restaurants, most recently mentoring his son in the operation of The Saucy Meatball in Gateway.
It might come as no surprise that Basile's favorite kitchen gadget is a counter-top pizza oven he purchased online.
“I was going to get a wood-burning oven but they take three to four hours to set up. This one is ready, literally, in five to seven minutes, and its high temperature actually gives a little bit of a coal-fired taste,” Basile says.
Basile not only uses the oven for pizza but also for roasting vegetables and chicken, and searing his steaks.
For Sal's pizza dough
Ingredients (makes 6 to 7 10-ounce dough balls)

2 pounds high-gluten flour, such as bread flour (avoid all-purpose or cake flours the high gluten allows the dough to stretch)
1 packet yeast, activated in warm water per package directions
Mix all ingredients and knead together. Keep extra flour and water on the side to mix in as needed, making sure the dough is neither too wet nor too dry.
Once kneaded to a smooth texture, section the dough into 6 or 7 balls about 10 ounces each. Place on an oiled sheet pan and cover with plastic wrap. Let dough sit at room temperature until it rises, about 1 to 1½ hours.
While Sal likes to work with the dough at room temperature, refrigerating it for 30 minutes till firm could make handling easier for first-time dough makers.
While dough is rising, make the sauce.
2 cans Italian plum tomatoes
6-7 fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

Depending on the desired consistency, mash or puree the tomatoes. Stir in basil, olive oil, salt and pepper. Set aside.
When dough has risen, remove one of the balls.
As Basile instructs: Slap the dough. Stretch it. Do not use a rolling pin. Rolling takes the air out. You want the bubbles and imperfections. He suggests getting a 12-inch pizza screen. Stretch the dough to fit, top with sauce, mozzarella and your favorite toppings. Place in the oven until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is crisp. Then pull the screen out and let the pizza rest and cool slightly before eating.
The Sea Breeze Cocktail
The Sea Breeze is one of many popular vodka and juice mixed drinks that every aspiring bartender should know. There are a few drinks that can be easily confused with the Sea Breeze: the Greyhound is grapefruit juice only, the Bay Breeze is pineapple and cranberry juices, and the Cape Codder is cranberry juice only.

The Cape Codder initially combined equal parts vodka and cranberry juice softened by sugar and water, but the drink has evolved into a cranberry cocktail, eschewing the sugar and water. For one of the simplest and most refreshing drinks around, nothing surpasses the Cape Codder. Named for the area of Massachusetts where it began as a bar special, the humble Cape Codder is a perennial summer favorite.
On a historical note, the same fixings appeared in a drink at Trader Vic’s in the 1950s as the Rangoon Ruby. It made a second appearance a decade later as a Bog Fog. The Cape Codder has not only since held its own but has inspired many variants.
The Cape Codder can be enjoyed freshly made or stored in large batches ahead of time. Some variations on the recipe call for light rum or applejack as the base, and some people add a touch of soda for an adult cranberry spritzer.
